XR For a Cause Award - Cornerstone VR

Cornerstone VR’s knife crime VR films recognised as a finalist for the ‘XR for a Cause Award’

Blog post by Serena Hadi, Head of Operations and Practice at Cornerstone VR

We’re thrilled that our innovative approach to addressing youth knife crime through immersive virtual reality films has garnered significant recognition, making us as a strong contender for the prestigious XR for a Cause Award at the upcoming 27th Laval Virtual Conference.

Knife crime remains a pressing issue in the UK, with young teenagers aged 13-15 being reported as more likely to carry weapons than those aged 16-17, and with nearly half (47%) of those who carry a weapon doing so for self-protection.

To address this, we collaborated with experts across various sectors—including police officers, educators, youth justice services, foster agencies, social care professionals, and, most importantly, young people themselves.

Our goal? To foster empathy and deepen understanding among professionals, caregivers, and young people about the real impact of carrying a knife.

The XR for a Cause Award, part of Laval Virtual’s LV Awards, honours XR initiatives that have a positive impact on society. We’re proud that our work leverages VR technology to address a critical societal issue in order to create meaningful change.

This recognition of our efforts serves as a testament to the potential of immersive technology in tackling real-world problems and enhancing societal well-being.

A huge well done to everyone nominated—we’re honoured to be in such inspiring company!
